Tailored Traditions
This project was focused on learning the techniques associated with making tailored jackets. I started by researching tailored jackets as well as visiting the imperial war museum. I used my primary images, especially from the museum, to sketch key features which I thought were interesting. To further develop my research I looked at the latest trends for tailoring on WGSN to ensure my designs were not outdated.
Sartorial Sketches
I chose to focus on sustainability for this project. I did this through my fabric selection by selecting fabrics which were biodegradable or natural fabric which decompose as I had to think about the end of life for my garment. Unfortunately, this couldn’t be fully achieved due to certain aspects of the garment such as the plastic zips. I also used sustainable practices when manufacturing the garment such as planning pattern pieces to be cut as closely as possible to minimise the waste of fabric.
